Lots of recruiting tidbits and the closest thing to football we have in March was in Arlington on Sunday. Nike’s The Opening Regionals were held at Lamar HS. It used to be known as Nike Football Training Camp (NFTC) but maybe that was too fancy. Either way, a record 13 prospects were invited to the main event, The Opening in Oregon. While there were no current Longhorns’ commits on the roster, that, just like last year, will change.
Austin LBJ’s Johnnie Williams and Mineola’s Riley Anderson both braved the freezing elements last Saturday to take in a Texas Junior Day. But both took different paths to get here.
If you were expecting a flurry of commitments on Saturday, adjust your expectations. What you should expect actually happened. After yesterday’s tumultuous weather of freezing temperatures and rain, the players that actually did show up proved one thing; they really like Texas.

After a relatively quiet February in 2014, the Texas staff was very judicious with its offers. Fast forward a year later and that’s no longer the case.
