Thoughts on current and future LBs

Gary Johnson (Will Gallgher/IT)

On Saturday we were treated to something we haven’t seen since 2014, quality and consistent linebacker play from the whole unit, rather than poor fundamentals and a sprinkling of athletic WOW plays. Plays were made at the line of scrimmage or behind it rather than 10 yards down the field. They played physical. It was awesome.

Potential potholes on the road to NSD

No two recruiting cycles are alike, and when you factor for starkly different approaches between Charlie Strong and Tom Herman, there’s quite a bit to chronicle. Compounding the interest; for the first time for college football, NSD is plural as we’ll have one that runs from December 20-22 along with the customary first Wednesday in February (2/7).

What the Maryland game tells us about recruiting needs

This endeavor is a bit premature but I’ll happily update my thoughts as we accumulate more information, likely after USC.

Based on Saturday’s game there’s a chance Texas won’t exorcise demons until there’s significant roster turnover. The fastest way to accomplish that is with big recruiting classes, which should be on the order for the next two cycles. While you convulse as you remember I wrote the same damn thing in 2014, I’ll continue.

The Inside Scoop – 8/28/17

First and foremost, sending prayers to our people in Houston. I’m so excited for the start of Texas Football, but I’m utterly amazed from all the help from Texans taking care of Texans. God bless this state.

Let’s take a closer look at a Texas commit, OL target, ones to watch, charts of depth, and Shaka and his staff are hosting a big Labor Day recruiting weekend. It’s the Monday Scoop.

Texas has racked up in the last 10 days commitments from the state’s best player and corner in Jalen Green, and two vertical threat receivers in Al’vonte Woodardand Brennan Eagles. We’re seeing recruiting done at an extremely high level. It’s not all just social media show business; the staff puts in the hours and effort.
