Pretty much every single important internal and external aspect of recruiting is going UT's way currently, save overall in-state talent level, which is beyond the staff's control. While these aspects haven't led to any in-state commitments (that's not a bad thing, they simply aren't reaching) thus far, it's led to quite a buzz with the in-state elites.
We'll use my rough draft Top 21 (for some reason Fuddy went with 21 -- probably his attempt to blue ribbon more players into the Top 10 or 15) as a gauge to see where the state's best are leaning at this point. Of note, this is more based on my gut feeling and some rumblings than what players themselves are actually saying publicly.
The 2018 state of Texas recruiting features one of the most imbalanced talent distributions in recent memory. The Lone Star State is absolutely loaded at DB and WR, solid at TE, and relatively lacking in both top line talent and quality depth everywhere else. Little guys haven't been this empowered since Frodo went to Mordor.
After this weekend's Junior Day, there's a little buzz around CFB and Tom Herman. Apparently he knows how to put on a Junior Weekend (that's what I'm calling it now) with precision, execution, and alignment (DRINK). Well, that positive vibe continues this week as the staff will host a 4-star from Da Boot and maybe a couple of prospects this weekend. Offer watch time.
The most anticipated recruiting event in Austin in years is finally here and the list of invitees certainly lives up to the hype. Not only is Saturday loaded, but Jaylen Waddle is headed to Austin as we speak, Casey Thompson will be in later today/tonight, and Sunday is a good day of visits in its own right. We'll take a look at each confirmed name and offer our thoughts. These thoughts are equal parts inside info and intuitiveness.
