It’s already obvious that there will be several big time quarterback prospects coming out of the Lone Star State in 2010 and one of the best is Second Baptist’s Connor Wood. Wood has wasted no time diving into the recruiting process, camping at four different schools this summer.
Houston Second Baptist quarterback Connor Wood made quite a name for himself during his sophomore season, throwing for 2,200 yards and 23 touchdowns on his way to earning First Team All-District honors.
The recruiting process starts earlier and earlier every year and several major programs have already begun showing interest in Wood.
“I’m interested in the schools that are showing interest in me,” Wood said. “I’m not making a huge list, but the schools that have shown interest are Texas, OU, Georgia, Texas A&M, Baylor, Arizona, Missouri and LSU.”
“I’m really lucky to be drawing interest from so many schools. I feel blessed,” Wood added.
Wood has already attended camp at Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor and is planning on taking in LSU and Texas A&M before his junior season begins.
“I’ve enjoyed my summer,” Wood said. “All of the coaches were very nice and welcoming. They showed me around campus. It was fun just hanging out and getting to know some of the schools.”
At this point in time, Wood is simply trying to get a feel for each of his favorites, saying that each school was ‘on the same plane.’ However, he does know what he will look for when recruiting picks up during his junior season.
“All of those programs have winning, successful traditions,” Wood said. “I’m looking for the college that feels right.”
Wood said that his major strengths as a quarterback were escaping out of the pocket, making things happen and reading defenses. On top of having great skills at the position, Wood is also a team player.
“We want to win a state championship. It’s a huge goal for us. That’s all we have been talking about,” Wood said.
