Redshirt freshman Adrian Alaniz gave up only one run over seven strong innings and the UT offense plated five runs on 11 hits as No. 5 Texas posted a 5-1 win over No. 4 Baylor in front of a record-crowd of 26,641 at Rosenblatt Stadium during the opening round of the College World Series (CWS) on Saturday, June 18.

The Longhorns (52-16) now advance to face No. 1 Tulane on Monday, June 20 at 6 p.m. Central, while Baylor (44-23) will move on to play Oregon State in an elimination game earlier that day at 1 p.m. Central. Both games will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2.

Sophomore Kyle McCulloch and junior J. Brent Cox combined for nine shutout innings to lead No. 5 Texas to a 5-0 shutout victory over No. 1 Tulane in front of 26,941 fans at Rosenblatt Stadium during the second round of the College World Series (CWS) on Monday, June 20.

Notably, the shutout not only marked the 12th for the Horns this season, which is the most for a UT team since 1976 (12), but was also the first for Texas in the CWS since June 3, 1983 (a 12-0 win over James Madison in the opening round). The Longhorns (53-16) will now face the winner of an elimination game between Baylor and the Green Wave (55-11), on Wednesday, June 22nd at 6 p.m. Central on ESPN2.

"He's got a bad shoulder," came the comment. "He can barely swing the bat."

To which Garrido replied, "look, every baseball coach in America yells at his kids that 'we need somebody to step up,' Now, here's a guy who wants to be a hero, and I'm going to let him."

So where are the Omaha highlights from '06, '07 and '08? /:)

Sorry, I'm just really down on Augie right now (and DeLo$$). Augie has a lot to straighten-out this season IMO, both professionally and personally.

But I wish "the team" (i.e. the players) well, so...

HOOK 'EM!

Augusta this is the perception of Texas Baseball;

Texas made its 52nd NCAA Tournament appearance a year
ago. The ‘Horns have been a member of all but 10 of the national championship fields.

That speaks Volume!1

djb,

So by your information, just "getting to" the NCAA playoffs is not playing to Texas standards. Texas should expect...demand...that Augie do better.

By the way, I thought the recent article in the AAS about Augie's "lessons learned" was pretty sad. IMO he's in denial about his drinking, as most alcoholics are (at least initially). IMO Augie has not learned much of anything thus far about himself. He needs professional help.
