View Full Version : Anyone notice Muschamp...

... on the Crabtree go-ahead TD, from the camera behind the end zone? As Crabtree slips free and runs into the end zone, you can see Muschamp ripping off his headset just before the camera pans him out of the frame? Got a feeling that headset is no longer functional...

He should have been pissed! His defense gave up 581 yards and 31 first downs tonight.

That 581 yards and 31 first downs are the most in each category we've surrendered to Tech since at least 2003, Bull Reese's last year.

Our tackling wasn't much improved over last week. We've got too many DB's with their backs to the QB with no chance to make a play on the ball. Our safeties are out of the fluckin' picture half the time and the corners are too far off the LOS against a timing attack like Tech's.

Past defenses under Robinson/Toomey ('04), Chizik ('05-'06) and even the clown-act of Akina/Mac Duff ('07) had better games against Tech than Muschamp's defenders did tonight. Why, I don't know, but I'm sure Muschamp has a good idea.

Hook'em!

I thought in the second half we saw a pretty typical Texas defensive performance against Tech: give up lots of yards but keep them out of the end zone.

Harrell had all day to throw the majority of the time, Curtis Brown and Deon Beasley couldn't cover anyone. Earl and Blake both dropped easy picks. Muschamp and Chizik both looked untouchable for the most part in the SEC, but have gotten beaten up badly in the Big 12 with the Spread Offenses. Deon Beasley gave up at least 10 huge pass plays. I questioned if Deon Beasley would fit into Muschamp's system. He's undersized and not very physical, he misses tons of tackles and can't cover anyone worth a sh*t. This is the 2nd consecutive game that Beasley has performed very poorly in. He's a Junior and one of the most experienced players in the Secondary, yet he is consistently out performed by under classmen. Aaron Williams is very good, he will be a 1st round pick when he graduates.

I said it in another thread, but the injured player we missed the most was Ryan Palmer. He may not be our most physically talented DB, but he plays steady, brings calm to the secondary, and we sorely missed his senior leadership tonight.

We did not pressure Harrell enough and didn't cover well enough--a bad combination.

Having said of all of that, Tech finished right in the ballpark, points-wise, where I thought they would be going in (and remember that the Raiders' offense only put up 30 of the 39). It was the Texas offense that didn't meet expectations, by at least one and maybe two TDs (given the Shipley punt return).

Beasley was abused all night long. Will was brought in to shore up the defense. In the last two games, we have looked avg at best.

Clendon's what's your sense of the Impact of not having Quan in the game. It seems to me that Tech was able to concentrate on Shipley and we had few answers until we started finding Williams (who looks like he will be a star)

I will not lay anything on the defense. They essentially had to play 3 quarters on the fied before our Jr. High School offensive coaches got anything working.

Greg Davis should be fired. This morning. Not retired after the season - fired. This morning.

If Mack does not replace this bafoon he will blow our chances at a title next year I am almost sure of it.

My sense is that it definitely had an effect, but I think the much bigger problem was the play of the offensive line early. It didn't matter much who was at wideout because Colt was so heavily pressured.

P.S. Agreed on your Williams comment. He's going to get a good one. I started a bright spot thread earlier about Fozzy Whittaker. Malcolm Williams should be in that conversation as well.
