Not many people can claim to have been a part of a national championship team. Even fewer have the proud distinction of being on the very first national championship team for a school with a rich athletic history like The University of Texas.
Former Longhorns baseball player Charlie Munson is one of the few who fall into the latter category. In recognition of his contributions to Texas' athletic history, Munson will be honored this weekend with induction into the 2008 Longhorns Hall of Honor.
A solid defensive outfielder and steady hitter who played from 1947-49, Munson was a senior on the 1949 baseball squad that won Texas' first-ever National Championship. Even though it has been almost 60 years since they brought home the National Championship, Munson and his teammates will forever play a role in Texas' athletics history.
