Sink two aircraft carriers’: Chinese Admiral’s chilling recipe to dominate the South China Sea

His speech, delivered on December 20 to the 2018 Military Industry List summit, declared that China’s new and highly capable anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles were more than capable of hitting US carriers, despite them being at the centre of a ‘bubble’ of defensive escorts.

“What the United States fears the most is taking casualties,” Admiral Lou declared.

He said the loss of one super carrier would cost the US the lives of 5000 service men and women. Sinking two would double that toll.

“We’ll see how frightened America is.”

They could easily sink those carriers.

But then what? They would have to deal with the fallout, and that wouldn't be pretty.

    True statement.

    China has no such concerns.

Yeah because some places don’t care if a bunch of their people get killed.

    Come on.

Well they do want to get their population down.

You're right, China doesn't have an extended history of massacring it's own people, or you know, not even letting them be born.

Lot of places have a history of massacring their own people.

Doesn't mean they would just carelessly get a bunch of them killed either. Russia could easily sink one or more of our carriers too. In fact, probably a number of countries could do it. But why? What would it gain them? China isn't interested in going to war with us, and it's silly to even suggest it.

What happens if they sink a carrier? We retaliate in spades, destroying their economy and thousands upon thousands of their people. It could escalate to nuclear war. They aren't stupid.

None of this has anything to do with your assertion that China cares about getting their people killed.

The poster made some comment that China doesn't care about taking casualties. It's a silly assertion. Of course they do.

China’s view of life, particularly the lives of its soldiers is much different than ours. If you had spent much time in China or studying Chinese history, you would understand that. It is not a moral issue. It is a cultural and political one.

You know little about China but you make the French proud.

  15. JG

JG Member Who Talks (A Lot!)

Yeah, they are going to provoke a war that gets a ton of their citizens killed, destroy their economy, and not gain them anything.

    It’s not a moral issue. It’s a not-do-stupid-things issue.

They would not sacrifice their economy or any strategic advantage, but that was not Lou’s point or mine. Chinese soldiers are insignificant. One million could die and few other than their families would mourn. Most wouldn’t even know. They are not like Americans.

We care much more about casualties.

They aren't going to shoot at our ships. They know what would come of that. And they are wrong about the casualties. American's don't want casualties for pointless wars. But we would be fine responding to an attack on our Navy.

China's bragging about landing a spaceship on the far side of the moon saying it's something the Americans didn't even dare to try. Not to point out the obvious but they still haven't put a man on the moon, something we did 50 years ago. Now, if they put someone on Mars before we do brag all you want.

Exercise increased caution in China due to arbitrary enforcement of local laws as well as special restrictions on dual U.S.-Chinese nationals.

Chinese authorities have asserted broad authority to prohibit U.S. citizens from leaving China by using ‘exit bans,’ sometimes keeping U.S. citizens in China for years. China uses exit bans coercively:

    • to compel U.S. citizens to participate in Chinese government investigations,
    • to lure individuals back to China from abroad, and
    • to aid Chinese authorities in resolving civil disputes in favor of Chinese parties.
In most cases, U.S. citizens only become aware of the exit ban when they attempt to depart China, and there is no method to find out how long the ban may continue. U.S. citizens under exit bans have been harassed and threatened.

U.S. citizens may be detained without access to U.S. consular services or information about their alleged crime. U.S. citizens may be subjected to prolonged interrogations and extended detention for reasons related to “state security.” Security personnel may detain and/or deport U.S. citizens for sending private electronic messages critical of the Chinese government.

Extra security measures, such as security checks and increased levels of police presence, are common in the Xinjiang Uighur and Tibet Autonomous Regions. Authorities may impose curfews and travel restrictions on short notice.

China does not recognize dual nationality. U.S.-Chinese citizens and U.S. citizens of Chinese heritage may be subject to additional scrutiny and harassment, and China may prevent the U.S. Embassy from providing consular services.

Read the Safety and Security section on the country information page.

If you decide to travel to China:

    • Enter China on your U.S. passport with a valid Chinese visa and keep it with you.
    • If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy or the nearest consulate immediately.
    • If you plan to enter North Korea, read the North Korea Travel Advisory.
    • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.

Do not **** around in China. I have been fortunate to always have a Chinese business partner when I visit. My Chinese is marginal at best. I was in Shanghai for New Years Eve. The Chinese military patrolled the streets but were mostly docile. Fireworks were prohibited.

A senior Chinese military official warned the US Navy Tuesday against any "interference" in support of Taiwan's independence, saying that Beijing would defend its claim to the island "at any cost".

General Li Zuocheng, a member of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Admiral John Richardson, the chief of US naval operations.
