Thursday evening, after weeks of keeping our cool while others repeatedly broke their hollowed-out tooth cyanide capsule, we finally felt the coaching search pressure a bit based on some very reliable information. And damn am I pissed about that because thanks to some quick action I once again think UT is back to neutral with Herman’s car headed downhill to Austin, provided the UT admin doesn’t set up any spike-strips.
I think we’ve done a great job breaking down the motives of leaks, the gullibility of sites echoing them, and explaining why Herman was the easy low-risk selection for a cadre of people wholly unqualified for their current task. What’s been much more difficult to account for is what the Texas triumvirate of Admiral McRaven, Greg Fenves, and to a lesser degree, Mike Perrin actually intend on doing. Tom Herman’s agent, Trace Armstrong, apparently felt similarly and did the responsible thing by engaging seriously with LSU.
