In recent days I’ve mentioned this Texas team seems pretty similar to Kansas State teams of the past. The offense isn’t explosive (though there is big play ability) and the team is physical and mentally resilient for the most part. They want to win wars of attrition and in recent weeks that approach has worked.
I started one conversation this week with that observation, and the response I received was also a conclusion I’ve made: “but Texas is more talented.”
Talent is certainly on UT’s side, but the name of the game this week is to ‘out Kansas State Kansas State.’ This would have been unthinkable pre-Herman, but we’ve already seen them do it once.
Last year’s game was the one example of Texas appearing fatigued late. We’ve heard that weeks after that game players were still nursing aches and pains. This team knows full well what to expect and they know to win they have to take the physicality to the Wildcats. Confidence is high that they’ll match the level of physicality needed.
After two solid wins I didn’t pick up on any overconfidence. It sounds like a very focused group, yet one that is also having fun.
