AUSTIN — With room in the class, Texas began looking for someone they could mold in the program. They found that guy in northwest Houston.
2018 Cy-Woods OL Christian Jones committed to Texas today. Jones was previously committed to SMU and had other competing offers from Cal, Virginia, and Vanderbilt.
Evaluations from the Recruiting Notebook:
How he fits at Texas: Jones’ senior tape is an amusing collection of him executing a role designed to accommodate short, quick, and undersized tackles with all the necessary quickness and tenacity you’d expect to find from a 210 pound overachiever in a 6-5, 270 pound body. He’s double teaming and reach blocking most snaps, a role for which he’s obviously wildly overqualified, and the result is him driving DL down the field and leaving bodies in his wake on snap after snap. He’ll be very raw for Texas’ scheme but the athleticism and length is there to fit at LT if he can master the kick step. If not, he can probably translate inside at guard. – Ian Boyd
Jones becomes the 25th member of Texas’ 2018 class joining Joshua Moore (Yoakum), Mike Williams (Baton Rouge, LA), Daniel Carson (Independence, MO), Anthony Cook (Houston Lamar), Mikey Grandy (College of San Mateo), Ryan Bujcevski (Marist Catholic College – Australia), Junior Angilau (Salt Lake City), D’Shawn Jamison (Houston Lamar), Rafiti Ghirmai (Frisco Wakeland), Malcolm Epps (Spring DeKaney), Keondre Coburn (Spring Westfield), Brennan Eagles (Alief Taylor), Jalen Green (Heights), Al’Vonte Woodard (Lamar), BJ Foster (Angleton), Ayodele Adeoye (Overland, MO), DeMarvion Overshown (Arp), Keaontay Ingram (Carthage), Caden Sterns (Cibolo Steele), Cameron Dicker (Lake Travis), Reese Moore (Seminole), Cameron Rising (Newbury Park, CA), Casey Thompson (Newcastle, OK), Byron Hobbs (FW Eastern Hills).
