The Texas Longhorns made the hiring official Sunday, naming Darrell Wyatt wide receivers coach.

There were plenty of rumblings leading up to the hire about Wyatt (see: KU's Darrell Wyatt WR Coach Candidate and The latest on KU WR Coach Darrell Wyatt) and Sunday evening the Longhorns made the official announcement.

“I've been recruiting Texas for a long time and have developed a great rapport with the high school coaches,” Wyatt said in a release from UT. “I'm really looking forward to continuing to build on that. My wife's family lives in San Antonio, my sister lives nearby, so it's a great to be coming home to Texas.”

When he says he's been recruiting the state of Texas for a long time, he isn't exaggerating.  He's previously coached at Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Sam Houston State and Trinity Valley Community College.

“This is just a tremendous opportunity for me and my family,” Wyatt said. “Being a part of a program with such great history and tradition is very exciting. Having grown up in Texas and having played high school football here, it's great to come home to work for The University in the state. Texas is the type of place where the sky's the limit on what you can accomplish. They have great resources, a tremendous fan base and compete for championships. The level of expectations are extremely high and that's something I definitely will embrace.”

Texas head coach Mack Brown also released a statement, saying:

“We are so excited about the addition of Darrell to our staff. He's not only one of the best wide receiver coaches in the country, but he also brings expertise as an offensive coordinator. Darrell's someone who has coached in the NFL and has been recognized as one of the nation’s top recruiters. He has extensive experience working in the Big 12 and recruiting in all parts of Texas. He is a great addition to our staff.”
