The Mountaineers have ridden a high powered offense and a favorable schedule to a 7-3 record with Texas and Oklahoma still remaining. Their season upside rests on getting a win at home against the Longhorns. Once firmly on the hot seat, Dana Holgorsen is 16-5 in his last 21 Big 12 contests.
Credit his coaching ability and a system that, like a Kansas State, does a great job of integrating JUCO talent and second chance transfers along with more lightly recruited high school athletes that they redshirt, develop and don’t allow to see the field until they’re 4th year juniors or 5th year seniors. They don’t have a lot of leeway for error in their evaluations or development, but they seem to have the formula working right now.
