Texas survived an early first quarter starting QB injury and secured the win over a game Baylor football squad despite a sputtering Longhorn offense underperforming against a bottom tier FBS defense. It felt a bit Tulsa-like, including the scoreless offensive second half. The bye week couldn’t be better timed to get Ehlinger healthier, Shane Buechele more reps with the 1s, and a can of WD-40 for #7’s throwing arm. Some realizations come only through contrast and for me this game highlighted Sam’s growth from last year and through this year while demonstrating Buechele’s relative stasis from what we saw in 2017. Now #7 has a chance to take his own evolutionary steps as the likely road starter in Stillwater in a little less than two weeks.
