Last year at the Dallas Opening Regional I couldn’t help but notice the early Oklahoma commits were quite close. I knew then it spelled trouble for other schools in the region. OU was coming off a playoff trip and immediately spun that into recruiting momentum with the Class of 2017. The question at the time was whether or not the Sooners would be able to keep the early commits in the boat. By and large they did, and in hindsight much of OU’s talent was locked up nearly a year ago.

The value of early commitments stretches far beyond the individual talent of the player. They become the most vocal and enthusiastic recruiters, with unlimited contact. I recall an OU insider telling me the Sooner coaches had never seen anything like it. The commits were making their job easier.
