Dallas St. Mark’s Emmanuel Acho was just one of several commits on hand this weekend for the Texas Longhorns’ annual football banquet. Acho has made a number of unofficial visits in Austin this year to watch his brother in action, but those visits didn’t quite measure up to his official this weekend.
“It was awesome,” Emmanuel Acho said. “I got to meet with the rest of the recruits and talk to the coaches.”
All but two of the commitments from the 2008 class were on hand over the weekend and according to Acho, that made the trip even more special.
“It was great,” Acho said about having the majority of the ’08 class together. “It might have been the best part about it all. You got to see your future teammates, your future friends, the guys you are going to be spending a lot of time with for the next four or five years. It was a good feeling.”
Emmanuel’s host was none other than his own brother, Sam Acho. Emmanuel got to spend a lot of time with Sam and some of the other UT players during his visit.
“My brother actually,” Acho said when asked about his host. “I hung out with Blaine Irby, the freshman tight end, James Kirkendoll and a couple of other guys. They’re cool. I’ve met them before. I’ve been to just about all of the games.”
Acho also talked about his conversation with head coach Mack Brown.
“He was just talking really. It really wasn’t anything specific. He just said that they were glad to have me,” Acho said.
Acho and his St. Mark’s teammates finished the season with 9-1 record and won the SPC Championship. He is planning on finishing up at St. Mark’s during the spring and enrolling at UT this summer.
