Texas guard Andrew Jones announced Tuesday he would return to Texas for the 2021-22 season, his sixth in Austin.
Jones, classified as a redshirt junior in 2020-21, has played in 76 career games at Texas with 42 starts. In 26 starts this past season, Jones averaged 14.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He shot 40 percent from the field, 34 percent from three, and 83 percent at the line.
After overcoming a leukemia diagnosis during the 2017-18 season, Jones fully rejoined the team ahead of last season and played 26.5 minutes per game. He saw his minutes increase in 2020-21, averaging 31.4 minutes per game.
In his career at Texas, Jones has scored 1249 points, including a career-best mark of 379 in 2020-21. He joins Jase Febres as Longhorns from Shaka Smart’s last team who elected to return under Chris Beard.
