DALLAS – Several members of the Mansfield Timberview football team competed in the Scout Combine held at the Dallas Cowboys training facility on Sunday. The most notable was Texas commit Antoine Hicks. Hicks had the opportunity to work out at wide receiver for the first time and had a decent showing.
“Yeah, I am really excited.” Antoine Hicks said. “I mean this is my first camp, so I just want to see if I can compete with other people.”
Hicks is willing to do anything to help his team win. He was recruited as an athlete by the Longhorns and relishes the fact that he will be given the opportunity to play several different positions on the next level.
“When I was up there for Junior Day, they said I could play several spots,” Hicks said. “I am really excited about that because I want to play a lot of spots.
Hicks was joined by several other members of the current Longhorn recruiting class including Dan Buckner, Emmanuel Acho and Aaron Williams. Hicks saw his future teammates but didn’t really get a chance to talk with them because they were split up into different groups.
“I saw Dan,” Hicks said. “I saw both of them, but I haven’t really gotten a chance to talk to them.”
The whole point of having a combine is to make the players better. Hicks set a few goals during the combine to try and improve upon.
“I want to get quicker and be more social,” Hicks said.
Hicks showed good speed during the combine and adjusted well to a position that he was somewhat unfamiliar with. He will have plenty of opportunities to improve upon his route running and pass catching skills over the summer. He will continue to play quarterback next year in the Mansfield Timberview offense.
