Conroe High School in Texas is home to several 2010 prospects and linebacker Brandon Thornton just may be the most talented. Thornton put together a nice sophomore campaign and has already started receiving interest from several major programs. IT caught up with him to talk recruiting.
Conroe linebacker Brandon Thornton burst onto the scene last season, earning Sophomore of the Year honors in his district. Several programs took notice and the recruiting process is already underway for Thornton.
“Georgia Tech,” Thornton said when asked if any schools were sending mail. “Texas hasn’t sent anything, but they called the school and I went to camp down there.”
Thornton enjoyed the atmosphere during his stay in Austin and talked about the experience.
“It was fun. I like how I felt down there. I felt comfortable,” Thornton said.
During his stay, Thornton got to talk to a trio of Longhorn coaches, including head coach Mack Brown. The Texas coaches appear to be interested and are planning on making a trip to Conroe to check out Thornton in action later this year.
“I talked to Major Applewhite, the linebackers coach (Will Muschamp) and Mack Brown,” Thornton said. “They said they were coming to see me in the fall.”
On top of Texas, Thornton is also interested in Georgia Tech and Florida.
“With Florida, I like how they are rowdy. I like the fuel that they bring to the game.”
“With Georgia Tech, I like how they run their defense,” Thornton said.
