Texas safety Caden Sterns was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Sterns accumulated 173 total tackles during his three year career in Austin, intercepting five passes and recording 8.5 tackles for loss. Once a LSU commit, Sterns flipped to Texas in the spring of 2017 and joined Texas’ heralded 2018 defensive back class.

He played in 29 games at Texas, starting in 28. In 2018, he was named the Big 12 defensive freshman of the year and received first team All-Big 12 honors. His standout opening campaign earned him semifinalist honors from the Jim Thorpe Award.

In 2019, Sterns recorded 59 tackles including 4.0 for loss. Against Iowa State in 2020, Sterns had a career best 13 tackles including 0.5 for loss. He was a mainstay in the defensive backfield for three seasons before opting out and declaring at the end of the 2020 season.

A product of Steele High School in Cibolo, Sterns was rated as the No. 1 safety in the nation in the class of 2018. Sterns had 14 offers including LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, and UCLA.
