The Toneil Carter commitment couldn't have come at better time or faster rate. His recruitment went 0 to 60 in the same time he does, giving Tom Herman's staff a much needed jolt. This was a just reward for persistent work, and also a bit of good fortune.
Listening to Christmas music this morning in the Wells' house, I've got a couple recruiting notes to drop this morning while sipping on this egg nog waiting for Army-Navy. Just added Sunday updates on new offer and surprise visitors. Here are some notes for the big official visit weekend.
The Texas staff has been hitting the trail hard recently, and Thursday afternoon was no change. Coaches visited Houston and East Texas, offering several prospects across Houston and Dallas, including some committed to other schools. The IT Staff has more inside.
What I'm seeing and hearing right now is a staff that has a very clear plan. We're noticing the mad rush to get into the ear of early enrollees, while also seeing contingencies set up for January in the event they are needed. Basically Tom Herman is operating a long cycle on a short clock and doing a pretty good job of managing his limited time, at least so far as I can tell. No other position presents clearer resolution of controlled recruiting chaos than running back.
It's not even December and Texas has its new head coach and much of its staff decided. That is very rare, and very beneficial to the big recruiting push that's about to take place. While that push is happening, the staff will have to get its bearings on the fly, as there is a lot of information to account for and angles to play. Of utmost importance internally is understanding the landscape, identifying the most important targets, familiarity with unique scenarios, and understanding the timing of it all, all while keeping the current commits in the fold.
