Dravannti Johnson Takes in Austin

One could argue that next to junior days, the most important recruiting weekend for the University of Texas is the banquet weekend. Almost all the current commitments were in town over the weekend to take in the atmosphere on the 40 Acres. Nederland High School’s Dravannti Johnson talked about the experience.
“It was a pretty busy weekend. They had an itinerary for all day until night. Friday we just came in and got a hotel. Then, we went to the football banquet. Saturday we had all kind of meetings; academic, position meetings, a meeting with Coach Brown. We toured the campus, facilities, dorms and we had dinner with the whole staff,” Dravannti Johnson said.

“It was fun to get to know all the guys. I think we were missing D.J. Monroe and David Snow,” Johnson added. “It was pretty cool getting together with all the guys and being able to chill with them for a little bit.”

Johnson’s host was current Texas linebacker Rashad Bobino. He talked about his impressions of Bobino and the remainder of the Longhorn roster.

“My host was one of the linebackers, Rashad Bobino,” Johnson said. “I know all of the linebackers, and I know a bunch of the team already. I’m from the area, so I have family there (Austin) and I go up there a lot.”

Johnson also talked to Mack Brown during his visit and the Texas head coach had nothing but good things to say about Johnson.

“He said the same things that he said on my last visit. He told me that he thought I was a good player. He likes the way I hustle and the way I play the game. He just said that he was going to have to find a way to get me on the field,” Johnson said.

Johnson is one of six UT commits that have been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Game in January. He talked about the honor and about what he wanted to accomplish in San Antonio.

“It’s definitely an honor. It’s probably the best game in the nation to play in All-American wise. It’s something that I am proud of. I want to represent myself, my family, the state and the school well. It’s something to take pride in,” Johnson said.

“I just want to have fun. I’m not going to take it too seriously. I mean it’s a football game. We are supposed to have fun. I’m just going to have fun with a bunch of the commits and the other guys from all over the nation. I’m going to go there and play my hardest like always. I’m going to have fun and take it all in,” Johnson added.
