Texas was one strike away from taking game one of the Austin Super Regional before USF’s Drew Brutcher crushed a two-run, game-tying home run to Comal St. off of Tanner Witt.

With the game tied at three, Douglas Hodo III struck out and Trey Faltine flew out the first two ABs of the inning. The game seemed destined for extra innings when Silas Ardoin grounded a ball to short, but Bull shortstop Nick Gonzalez couldn’t make the play and brought Eric Kennedy to the plate.

Kennedy has hit the ball well in recent weeks but had little to show for it. On the first pitch he saw, he brought home Ardoin with a double to deep center to seal a 4-3, game one win for the Longhorns.

Texas can advance to Omaha for the 37th time with a win over the Bulls tomorrow evening.
