With an immensely talented 2020 running back class, Texas wanted to earn a commitment from one of the nation’s elite ball-carriers. Today, the Longhorns’ efforts were rewarded with the commitment of Tucson (AZ) Salpointe Catholic’s Bijan Robinson.

How he fits at Texas:  Robinson is comfortable moving out of the backfield and hitting the line at multiple points but he shines brightest making lateral cuts as a feature back. His ability to read and set up defenders before using his agility to beat them laterally to a crease is elite and should translate very well in Texas’ inside zone running game. These guys that can read linebackers and beat them to spots in just one or two steps are the best bets in the spread run game where you isolate the back with one or two guys to beat to get to space. – Ian Boyd

Coach saysStrengths – Well-built and well proportioned. Some room to add bulk. A decisive, strong runner with outstanding one-cut ability. Runs well in counter/gap scheme but could see him being highly effective as a zone runner. Tremendous vision and burst through the hole. Has good second gear in the open field and will score from anywhere. Open field acceleration destroys angles. Average to above average top-end speed. Some good change of direction/lateral movement on film. Good hands out of the backfield as an outlet. Able to flex as a WR. Shows a variety of routes run reasonably well. Willing to show some pass protection on highlights. Remarkable production at 2400+ yards and 36 TD. Seems well-spoken and likable on interview. Areas for Improvement – Passes up contact regularly. Gets very tall in traffic and loses leverage. Legs stop moving on contact routinely. Pass blocking needs work. Holds the ball away from his body routinely.

Robinson is the twelfth member of Texas’ 2020 class joining Andrej Karic (Southlake Carroll), Van Fillinger (Corner Canyon – UT), Vernon Broughton (Cy-Ridge), Prince Dorbah (Highland Park), Kitan Crawford (John Tyler), Ja’Quinden Jackson (Duncanville), Jaden Hullaby (Bishop Dunne), Jaylen Garth (Port Neches-Groves), Jake Majors (Prosper), Logan Parr (Helotes O’Connor), and Hudson Card (Lake Travis).
