    2020 Democratic Primaries

Reminds me of one of my favorite SNL commercials, for the affordable new Adobe (narrated by the great Phil Hartman):

    Yellowstone (TV show)

When Rip went toe-to-toe with Kayce—a SF trained fighter—in the corral, Rip let Kayce win, to please John. He also crashed through a plate glass window, took a bullet to the gut, and then promptly killed the two armed Beck Brothers henchmen. Rip is a freakin’ superhero. At the very least...

OT: Any farmers on the board?

It’s not a coincidence that Windthorst has long been an athletic powerhouse at the A and 2A level. Those German kids are big and tough.

OT: Any farmers on the board?

There are still a bunch of dairy farms up along Highway 82, from Archer County east to Cooke County, in little German towns like Windthorst, Scotland, Lindsay, and Muenster. I used to hunt deer and hogs up in Archer and Jack Counties with some of them ol’ boys. Good people.

So Mara Gay and the NYT are going to prove the success of the U.S. as a nation was due to slavery?

And they nonetheless pretend to be an objective news outlet. Journalism is broken in America. Perhaps irreparably.

So Mara Gay and the NYT are going to prove the success of the U.S. as a nation was due to slavery?

This is what is referred to as indoctrination. It’s funny, we used to laud teachers for teaching in a politically neutral manner, encouraging students to think critically for themselves, and allowing students to arrive at their own conclusions. That, of course, was when the teachers tended to...

    Dallas homicides

We all know which way the Texas Tribune leans, so I wasn’t expecting a model of journalistic objectivity or fairness. But, even still, I found this excerpt to be particularly disingenuous: If race is important in this conversation, then why are we talking about the victims being people of...

    The movie you just watched

Finally got around to watching The Highwaymen last night. A bit slow in the early going, but it picked up steam once Hamer (Costner) and Gault (Harrelson) eventually got on the trail of Bonnie and Clyde. The acting and chemistry between those two was as good as I had hoped. Costner did his...

So Mara Gay and the NYT are going to prove the success of the U.S. as a nation was due to slavery?

I have a sneaking suspicion that, when they say “grew out of” slavery, what they really mean is “can be tenuously or spuriously connected to” slavery. In other words, we ‘bout to see some serious mental gymnastics by people with a loose grip on history and a healthy disregard for truth.

    Two of the Fab 4

Wow. Here’s the money quote: I would add to these two important insights from French a comment about the sheer audacity, narcissism, and entitlement that it takes on the part of these two jihadists to suggest that Israel is somehow mistreating them. In what country—especially Arab...

    What are you reading?

I’m reading Seven Types of Atheists by British philosopher (and atheist) John Gray. It’s dense, but if you’re into political philosophy, it’s fascinating and well worth the while.

    What are you reading?

I’ve read several of his Westerns (Hombre, The Law at Randado, Last Stand at Saber River) and also The Hot Kid (a cool Prohibition era story). Enjoyable fiction. I’ve never read any of his Chili Palmer books.
