We are in a bit of a no man's land in the TXHSFB season, small schools are wrapping up district play and getting ready for the playoffs, while the big schools are all over the place due to COVID-19. That makes for a fun/weird scenario where we get some heavy hitting matchups on Thursday, while Friday still retains 3 talent heavy games worthy of viewing for any prospect hound across the region. As much as Bridgeland vs. Cy Ranch and Austin LBJ vs. Lampasas intrigue me, I can't help but peek forward to 3-4 weeks from now when the playoffs are heating up for 4A and below while 6A/5A start to wind down the district schedules and post season matchups begin to form. As always we have the official DCTF stream list linked at the bottom of the page, let's do this.

Mid County Madness gets this week's nod as the Wabash special Game of the Week because... it's mid county madness. Also called the Bum Phillips Bowl because of the legendary coach's former reign as the HC of both schools, this rivalry matchup is the premier game in SETX every fall and continually ranks #1 on any list of the best rivalry games in the entire state. Oh did I mention they get the coolest trophy in TXHSFB too?

Early start in the Cy Ranch vs. Bridgeland game, Bears up 7-0 with 3:59 left in the 1Q.

Cy Ranch is playing Baylor Commit Romario Noel on an island against Dylan Goffney.

If you’ve been a frequent reader of these game threads you know how much I love Ennis 2021 DE Jarveon Williams.. well throughout the first series of this game he’s absolutely eating up both tackles for Mansfield Summit. If he continues this he’ll have some nice tape vs. Jacoby Jackson

I know I must sound like the biggest Ennis Lion fan in the world but they're making a very talented Mansfield Summit team look ordinary, 2021 WR Laylon Spencer should be getting FCS looks at the minimum.

lmao of course as soon as I type that Hal Presley burns his man and scores on a 65 yard go route. Ennis still lead 28-13 with 2:38 to play in the 2Q

Some stats from the Ennis vs. Mansfield Summit game, final score was 63-26 Ennis.

Ennis: Collin Drake 12/19 230 yards passing 3 TDs, Laylon Spencer 6 Rec 135 Yds 2 Tds 2 INTs @ Safety, Jarveon Williams 2.5 Sacks 1 Punt Blocked
MS: Hal Presley 5 Rec 128 Yds 3 Tds

Also want to mention after seeing Bridgeland for the first time that they are likely going to go D2 in 6A (as long as Cy Park and Cy Falls don't make playoffs) and are in Region two instead of Region 3 like most Houston area schools. Go ahead and sign me up for a Bridgeland vs. Cedar Hill Regional Final

I really wish Fort Bend Hightower and Richmond Foster were playing tonight instead of tomorrow, that should be a good one.

Some other games worth keeping an eye on that I’ll try and find streams for:

6A No. 23 Rockwall vs. Rockwall-Heath Stream Link
4A DI No. 3 Waco La Vega at 4A DI No. 12 Midlothian Heritage Stream Link ($)
I'd love to find a Strake Jesuit vs. Shadow Creek link if anybody wants to help look
Burleson vs. Mansfield Timberview Stream Link
4A DI No. 4 Port Lavaca Calhoun vs. 4A DI No. 16 Corpus Christi Miller Stream Link
Frisco vs. Frisco Lebanon Trail Stream Link ($)
Arlington vs. Grand Prairie Stream Link ($)

I’m at ...

Klein Cain @ Tomball Memorial

Cain 2022 RB Jaydon Blue a Top Texas target

Cain 2022 WR Matthew Golden should be a Texas offer

Tom Memorial 2021 WR and Wazzu commit Joseph Manjack is a senior season eval by Texas

I’m going to watch Austin High vs. Lake Travis on the main screenuntil LT pulls away. I’d like to see if Charles can keep it somewhat entertaining in the first half.

Something to keep in mind in 26-6A is that after the first couple of games Austin High and Buda Hays look like the likely 3 & 4 seeds which would bump Westlake to D1. This would definitely please Converse Judson, San Antonio Wagner, and San Antonio Brandeis (all locks to go D2). Who knows maybe this would even be the year for Edinburg Vela to make a run
As someone who played football at LT and graduated somewhat recently, I somehow don’t understand / know the playoff rankings system you mention here. Would u mind explaining? About the bumping Westlake to D1, isn’t enrollment the only factor in playoff seeding a team in D1/D2

Yes sorry just based on enrollment, Austin and Buda Hays are the smallest in the district. Normally Del Valle or Bowie keep Westlake in D2

Arlington vs. Grand Prairie is a nice matchup to potentially circle back to, also of course Latrell McCutchin is talking trash to Ace Whitehead at the coin toss

And Lampasas 6’5” TE Lane Haviland posterizes Andrew Mukuba on the first pass of the game..

Tompkins forces a 3 and out then blocks the punt for a TD on the first possession of the game.

Lake Travis marches down the field and scores on their opening drive

Refs missed an absolutely brutal late hit out of bounds on Charles Wright that ruins an Austin High drive. Cavs up 17-7 and might pull away soon

It still infuriates me that people compared Jalen Milroe to Jerrod Heard. There are high level college QBs that couldn’t make the 3 step and hitch dig throw that milroe made a minute ago.

He’s thrown some darts. That was a always a dumb comp.

I think Hayden looks good, though he’s not being challenged much.

Im out of town but one of my nephews plays DT for Strake. Shadow Creek has a lot of potential obviously but they looked very sloppy last I saw vs North Shore

This has been the best game of the night. Badgers lead 23-18 with 4:49 left in the 3rd quarter, Mukuba broke up a 2PC attempt with a nasty hit on the FB. Fantastic stream quality for a 4A, small town announcers so you'll either find the commentary endearing or infuriating.

Help me out with #31 for Lampasas 2021 Lane Haviland, legit 6'5" WR/TE hybrid that makes huge plays for the badgers every game I've watched. No Offers to my knowledge

Tomball Memorial was up on Klein Cain 43-33 at the half!!!

Washington State WR commit Joseph Manjack is a really salty player. Playing QB tonight due to injury. He's 6-3, 200 and plays straight line 4.6. Physical, competitor that is a ball player. For me, Big 12 schools should go to him and tell him they are offering as an ATH. Get shot at WR first, if it doesn't work out ... move to OLB. He could be 6-3, 230 in a year.

I'm backing off Jaydon Blue being the best RB in Texas regardless of classification. He's not a better RB than LJ Johnson IMO. That's not a knock on Blue, he's a versatile weapon. I actually like him as a slot/RB combo with terrific hands. Not going to be a 20 carry type RB at next level --- at this point. He's a slasher/big play guy, but not a tackle breaker and has limited lower body strength/natural power to run through tackles. He's a take for nearly every program, but it's a different take for me than pure RB.

Texas needs to offer Klein Cain 2022 WR Matthew Golden. I know there are so many quality 2022 WR's in Texas, but this kid is a player. Probably 5-11.5, 175-180 with some wiry strength. Will be 5-11.5, 190 in time. He's got quick feet, gets in out of cuts, natural/sure hands, can track the ball, can turn and find/play the ball in the air, good body control, and a tough kid that plays wildcat QB and returns punts without fear.

Oregon and other P5's have offered.

Totally agree.

Milroe is JT Barrett with NFL arm talent.

For a school with their size, Austin LBJ does a terrible job utilizing their two blue chip recruits on offense. Borderline criminal
