Nederland, Texas linebacker Dravannti Johnson made a big splash in the recruiting world when he switched his commitment from Texas A&M to Texas a couple of months ago. Over the weekend, Johnson got his first opportunity to hang out with some of the members of UT’s 08’ class. Needless to say, he was very impressed.
“Oh yeah, it was fun. It was nice and hot,” Dravannti Johnson laughed when asked about Texas’ summer camp. “We just went through a couple of drills and talked a little about academics.”
The biggest plus of the camp for Johnson was getting to know some of guys that he will be playing alongside for the next five years.
“All the guys are real cool. We just got out there and clowned around a little bit,” Johnson said. “I’m looking forward to playing together and trying to bring the national championship back home. Hopefully, we will end up with a pretty good class.”
Johnson spent most of his time at camp with fellow linebacker and Texas commit Emmanuel Acho. He came away impressed with Acho and several others in attendance.
“Mainly I didn’t pay much attention to the offensive guys. Me and Emmanuel stayed together the whole time. We did all of our drills together. I let him know that I was number one (linebacker) in the state,” Johnson joked. “No for real, He is a good player.”
“Jeremy Hills looked good. He showed some wheels in one-on-ones. The DBs, Monroe and Williams looked good too,” Johnson added.
Johnson is looking forward to this fall where he wants to become a leader on the way to leaving his high school career behind.
“I’m just going to try to be a leader for my team whether it’s on offense or defense. I just want to go out the right way. I just want to play like I know I should and move on with my career afterwards,” Johnson said.
