For the third consecutive year, a Texas Longhorns big man was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft.

Jaxson Hayes was picked 8th overall by the Atlanta Hawks (proposed trade to New Orleans) in tonight’s 2019 NBA Draft. Hayes spent one season in Austin, and joins Jarrett Allen (Brooklyn) and Mohamed Bamba (Orlando) as post players Texas head coach Shaka Smart has sent to the league.

In 32 games at Texas, Hayes averaged 10.0 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, shot 73 percent from the field and 74 percent from the foul line. He also added 2.2 blocks per game.

Hayes is the 18th first round selection in program history for the Horns.
