Butler CC (El Dorado, KS) LB Juwan Mitchell loved his official visit in Austin last weekend. So he committed to Texas.
At 6-foot-1, 235 pounds, the former Minnesota pledge is a Horn. He’s got 4-to-play-3 and will enroll in June.
This isn’t a big surprise considering a decent OV was likely to land the New Jersey native. – JW
How he fits at Texas: Mitchell is a gifted plugging, inside-backer. He reads his keys and moves very decisively and downhill in the run game, filling windows at the line of scrimmage and arriving with force. In coverage and in space he obviously has some lateral quickness but a lot less tape and probably some learning to do while his blitzes are forceful and effective. In a scheme that can protect him from overexposure in space he fits the bill for a Big 12 ILB with the quick reads and lateral quickness that generally matter more in today’s game than size and power. Reminds me of guys like Tom Wort or Arthur Brown and would fit at Mac for Texas. – IB
