Longhorns ranked No. 17 in initial College Football Playoff rankings

The College Football Playoff selection committee released the first rankings of the 2020 season, with the Texas Longhorns ranked No. 17.

Texas’ upcoming opponent, Iowa State, was ranked No. 13. Oklahoma State was ranked No. 21, and the Oklahoma Sooners were ranked No. 11 as other teams representing the Big 12.

Nos. 1-4 were Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, and Ohio State.

This is the Longhorns’ first appearance in the CFP rankings since they were No. 19 during Week 11 in 2019. Texas’ highest ranking ever from the selection committee was No. 14 in 2018’s Week 13 rankings.
