When you’ve grown up down the road from the University of Texas, it’s common to have dreams of playing at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.
For Austin High’s Charles Wright, that becomes a reality today.
The 6-foot-1, 194-pound quarterback flipped his commitment from Iowa State to Texas. The 84 composite three-star pledged to Matt Campbell’s Cyclones on February 27th.
He earned first-team all-district Texas 25-6A honors as a junior. In just over two seasons as the varsity signal-caller has tallied 5,780 yards passing and 57 touchdowns and 290 yards on the ground, with eight scores.
After Katy Tompkins’ Jalen Milroe decommitted from earlier in the week, UT was on the prowl for its QB take for the Class of 2021.
How he fits at Texas: Highly accurate, throws a great and precise deep ball. His arm slot reminds of Shane Buechele, as does his knack for making plays. Good mechanics with a tight release. Little wasted motion. Might be a perfect fit in the Texas QB room filled with blue-chips like Sam Ehlinger, Hudson Card, and Ja’Quinden Jackson. Hudl/highlights
