Steve Sarkisian is hiring former Texas defensive back and current Ole Miss special teams coordinator Blake Gideon for an assistant role at Texas, according to multiple reports.

Zach Barnett of Football Scoop first reported the news.

Gideon began his coaching career in 2014 as a defensive quality coach for the Florida Gators. He most recently was special teams coordinator at Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin. Prior to Ole Miss, he was special teams coordinator and safeties coach at Houston for the 2019 season.

A product of Leander High School, Gideon started 52 games at Texas. He recorded 234 career tackles and 10 interceptions, and was part of the 2009 Big 12 championship team.
