Montana State head coach Jeff Choate is a “strong candidate” to join Texas’ staff, according to reports from Football Scoop and Jason Walker.

Choate has been the head coach at Montana State since 2016, where he has a 28-22 record and two FCS Playoffs appearances. In 2019, the MSU Bobcats reached the FCS semifinals.

Prior to Montana State, Choate served as defensive line coach and special teams coordinator at Washington with current Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski. He has Power 5 experience at Washington, Florida, and Washington State.

Choate played linebacker at Montana Western between 1988 and 1991. He last coached linebackers in 2013 under Will Muschamp at Florida.
