Texas landed a Black Unicorn for its first 2023 commit.

El Campo RB Rueben Owens II committed to Texas, choosing the Longhorns over offers from Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M among others.

“I’m excited to see what Texas is going to look like next year, the players they have already and the ones coming in under Sark’s leadership,” Owens recently told IT’s Justin Wells. “Coach Sark does a great job getting his players in the right position to make plays.”

Owens became a household name after his freshman season at El Campo. He continued his ascendant trajectory with 1500+ yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground during the 2020 season.

Owens is the first commit in Texas’ 2023 class.
