DALLAS — In just under 16 months on the job, Ra’Shaad Samples endeared himself to the Texas Longhorn nation.
After helping Tom Herman and the recruiting department build relationships, establish contacts, and start the #DallasToAustin movement, the assistant wide receiver coach for the Horns has accepted a position as WR coach at SMU, a source tells Inside Texas.
Samples was once a four-star recruit from Dallas Skyline that committed to Oklahoma State before transferring to Houston.
A member of the 2013 recruiting class, Samples had 11 yards on three grabs in 2014 before transferring. He then sat out the 2015 season. Samples gave up football at Houston as a result of multiple concussions.
At Texas, he helped open the door to the Dallas-Fort Worth area with multiple ties and connections to the football-rich region. He has assisted on the recruitments of Ja’Quinden Jackson (’20 Duncanville, Texas verbal), Chris Thompson (’20 Duncanville S), Savion Byrd (’21 Duncanville OL), Camar Wheaton (’21 Lakeview Centennial RB), and Quaydarius Davis (’21 Skyline WR, Texas pledge).
