If you're feeling pretty confident in the Texas offense (I am) and you think the Texas defense can stop conventional running attacks (probably), then assessing opponent QB play is paramount in reasonably predicting the rest of the season. It's very early with a lot of football yet to be played, but I've got a pretty decent sense of the landscape.
The bye week affords a good opportunity to take stock of where the conference is with talent acquisition. The short story is pretty much the same place where it has been: Texas and Oklahoma are clearly out front while other schools are doing the best they can to find hidden gems, scheme fits, and players who improve their baseline talent even if they require more time to develop. That's the right approach, especially for programs rebuilding or outside of the conferences main recruiting footprint of Texas.
The Big 12 is known for its offenses that thrive on extending defenses to horizontal and vertical extremes and getting the ball to impressive athletes in space to take advantage of those defensive stresses.

From following general recruiting my suspicion has been the rest of the conference is recruiting better top to bottom than in years past, but after writing this it seems status quo overall. Some schools are up, some down, but overall it seems to even out versus previous cycles.
