Team information is very quiet this week, but will pick up in the coming weeks, especially once camp hits. You can expect a couple of team updates a week, maybe more, during August camp. Next week the team will return to the normal routine of strength and agility work in the morning. Plus, latest on top targets Anthony Cook and Luke Ford in the Humidor.
As Eric and myself putting the finishing touches on a loaded Humidor, here's some recruiting notes to tide you over. We've got the Texas-Baylor visitor list, and three prospects to watch, including two UT commits and one on the Horns radar.
This week's Scoop delivers the projected two-deep after a week of practice and scrimmage. We also begin the ETX FB Tour stopping by to visit Texas commits, UT targets, and potential future Longhorns, and finish with a hoops roster breakdown for Shaka Smart's 2nd season in Austin. It's Monday, Scoop Day.
Unless Charlie Strong and the coaching staff host a star-studded official visit weekend in December, Saturday's Under the Lights camp will be the biggest recruiting event of the year. The third installment may not be as deep in elite talent as the previous two versions, but there's still plenty to get excited about. Here's our preview.
Magic happens in team sports when skills overlap, strengths complement strengths, and weaknesses are mitigated. If Texas can unite these four guys in the 2017 class, they’ll have a collection of athletes who would find it all too easy to work together to overstress and break apart defenses.
The ETSN Combine is where athletes from across the ETX region get invite-only opportunities to showcase their talents in a number of ways: 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical leap, and broad jump. After the initial testing, the prospects then go through 1-on-1 drills - OL vs DL and WR vs CB. This is where it gets physical. I talked to Damion Miller, Kayce Medlock, and a host of other prospects during the event.
I'll be at APEC for the 4th annual ETSN Recruiting Combine on Sunday. What started as a camp to help get ETX kids recruiting exposure has turned into a must-attend event here in Tyler. I was fortunate enough to be on the ground floor of this combine in 2013 when guys like Patrick Mahomes (Tech), Daylon Mack (A&M), Justin Dunning (A&M), and JaMycal Hasty (Baylor) put on impressive performances. Former Longhorn Dalton Santos was even there to help. Here's a list of the prospects to keep and eye on this weekend and how Texas factors into their recruiting.
The Texas coaching staff was back on the road again this week, covering TX, and hitting hotbeds like Louisiana and Florida. We also profile the most important position for UT's recruiting class in 2017 - wide receiver. After A&M's social media collapse, we look closer at players UT might pursue, plus Preston delivers four points on Texas hoops recruiting. As usual, the Scoop delivers on Friday.
