This specific Texas team knows it owes TCU for the recent pasteings. This sounds like a pretty vengeful bunch, at least on defense. I don't know that Texas will win, but I feel confident TCU will know it's been in a fight. Recruiting tempered some over the course of the week. The OU momentum faded a bit, at least as it concerns Texas. Keondre Coubrn canceled his trip to Alabama, and some big official visits have been set up.
LAKE TRAVIS — Garrett Wilson is still getting used to this recruiting thing. The multi-sport junior athlete from Lake Travis high school knew he had elite skills on the hardwood, but it was getting that much-needed self-confidence that he could produce on the gridiron that was lacking before last year.
The 2017 Longhorns are loaded with talented pass catchers and while strength is never a weakness, it does mean some pretty good players, hyped former recruits and expected veteran mainstays will be on the outside looking in when snaps are doled out over the course of the season. Managing egos will be interesting. Some choices will surprise Longhorn fans, but we'll see plenty of reshuffling as the season progresses and the staff sees how their talent reacts to live fire.
One of the positions that Tom Herman and Tim Beck saw a lot of promise in when they first showed up was the wide receiver group. It was a group that returns almost all of its production, with 6 out of 8 of the leading receivers from last season currently in camp.
Just a week after landing one of the state's elite pass catchers, Tom Herman and Texas landed another one. Alief Taylor wide receiver Brennan Eagles committed to Texas today. Eagles, committed to the Longhorns over competing offers from Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, among others.
AUSTIN -- Tom Herman has attributes he prefers for slot receivers in his offense. It's safe to assume a prospect with 4.33 (40) speed fits his preferences. That's one reason Louisville (KY) Trinity wide receiver Rondale Moore committed to Texas today. Moore, one of the fastest wide receivers in the country, chose Texas over competing offers from Kentucky, Ohio State, Purdue, Penn State, and Pittsburgh, among others.
One of my lasting impressions in this job is pulling up to Lancaster's Spring game in 2012. As I was walking to the field, I heard the instrumental to the timeless classic John by New Orleans musician Lil Wayne playing during the team stretch/hype period. At this point one might want to put the pads on too, at least until they started popping.
