In this edition of the Humidor, we go over the two departures from the program that were announced yesterday, as well as what that means for the defensive line going forward. We also catch up with some more quick hitters during the transition from spring practice to summer workouts. Happy Friday, happy reading.
T-minus 24 hours until kickoff of the Orange-White scrimmage from DKR and there's a hint of momentum in the air. After Texas landed its quarterback for 2018, Casey Thompson of Southmoore (OK), his pledge may be the signal from the light Tower to all the ships (recruits) approaching Austin harbor. UT didn't just get a Chris Leak-type passer for the next class, they also snagged a key recruiter in the race for talent in 2018.
A Thursday night happy hour flows gently into Fridays in the Humidor. Today we tip our glass to Jesus Shuttlesworth who stumbled sideways through the door last night, and also the Cigars who have given us so much information over the years. This Humidor delivers it all - Cigars, practice notes, and recruiting momentum.
You don't go through a 10-18 season like the Longhorns Basketball program is currently mired in without showing some bruises along the way. Shaka Smart, brought to Texas because of his ability to relate to the young men under his tutelage, was considered a slam dunk hire when he came to Austin. And a slam dunk hire he still may be.
This week's Humidor dives into team info as the players are working out with new S&C coach Yancy McKnight and staffers. We talk a little defensive personnel, and drop the latest on recruiting visits and visitors. We're hitting the final stretch of the Class of 2017 and we'll talk about UT's finish. Plus, a nugget on IMG inside the Humidor.
In this edition of the Humidor, the IT staff takes us through how Tom Herman and the rest of the staff are approaching the offseason, including recruiting and team mentality. We also dive into visitors coming in this weekend, and some who could make a mid-week trip; plus former Longhorn talks Max Cummins.
A bit of an exciting weekend looms with numerous visitors making their way to Austin as the cycle mercifully winds down. We don't like to bother recruits while on their visit for obvious reasons but we'll pass along anything of note we hear. Of course we'll have a big recap when it's all said and done. But first, we'll start with some light team notes and UT's RB big board for 2018.
There might not be much popping for UT in San Antonio this week, but there's excitement on the 40 Acres and more on the way. We talk to recruits about recent hires, Tim Beck and Stan Drayton, and break down possibly the most important recruit for Texas in the Class of 2017. It's Hermandor time on this Friday.
