Last week we took a look at some of the lesser known players in the program. This week we mined our sources, old and new, for information on some of the more well known players in the program heading into the Spring. You'll see some overlap in this and last week's Humidor. If we're reiterating it's because it comes from differing sources. So you know it's good. Let's take a look.
Rather than fresh powder, Tom Herman's initial recruiting sledding is going a little icier than I initially anticipated. The moment that really caught my attention was when I was told Herman didn't have any sort of relationship built with Marvin Wilson or Walker Little, or anyone close to them. Also details on specific Longhorns heading into the Spring inside the Humidor.
Herman's offense, the Applewhite impact, starting from behind on 2017 recruits, and a huge recruiting weekend coming to Austin this Saturday and Sunday makes for exciting times right before the NCAA Dead Period. We give you names, odds, and how Herman has no fear going after in-state committed prospects. This staff is working overtime, just like the squad at Inside Texas in the Humidor.
Thursday evening, after weeks of keeping our cool while others repeatedly broke their hollowed-out tooth cyanide capsule, we finally felt the coaching search pressure a bit based on some very reliable information. And damn am I pissed about that because thanks to some quick action I once again think UT is back to neutral with Herman's car headed downhill to Austin, provided the UT admin doesn't set up any spike-strips.
We dive into team reports, injury news, and new starters heading into UT's battle with the No. 10 West Virginia Mountaineers. We also add a tidbit on potential staff changes this offseason, and go in-depth on the chances of a coaching carousel happening in college football starting next month. We finish with a portion of the Texas-WVU recruiting visitor list and notes on the early attendees. It's Friday, Humidor day.
This week's edition of Friday's in the Humidor explains the behind the scenes look at the Texas Football program and coaching situation. Tons of moving parts means Saturday's tilt in Lubbock is one of the most crucial games in the Charlie Strong Era. We've got team news, player updates, and an important recruiting note. The Humidor lives up to the hype.
I can't help but chuckle as I routinely witness people predict the outcome they least want as the most likely. What are the odds that what you always fear is what's always most likely? Texas has a reputation for exerting conference hegemony, indifferent or spiteful academics in charge of high level athletic decisions, and meddlesome boosters all culminating in a cesspool. Kirk Herbstreit was right! Three or four years ago.
