Since the Texas Tech loss, the UT staff has been busy hitting the recruiting trail and preparing the team for the Texas Bowl. Herman has been busy evaluating the program and also re-interviewing his entire staff. It's not unusual for a head coach to do performance reviews, but that's normally after the season, not in mid-December. The timing is peculiar given all Texas has on its plate, including trying to gather as many signatures as it can before NSD1.
This specific Texas team knows it owes TCU for the recent pasteings. This sounds like a pretty vengeful bunch, at least on defense. I don't know that Texas will win, but I feel confident TCU will know it's been in a fight. Recruiting tempered some over the course of the week. The OU momentum faded a bit, at least as it concerns Texas. Keondre Coubrn canceled his trip to Alabama, and some big official visits have been set up.
2018 is loaded instate at the cornerback position and Texas just received a commitment from one of, if not, the best. Houston Heights cornerback Jalen Green committed to Texas today over offers from Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Clemson and many others. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound corner was highly coveted in the 2018 class.
There isn't one month on the CFB calendar more dull than July. Coaches are taking vacations, players are going home to rest up before the dreaded August heat and grind of 2-a-days. This is the month that can separate the good from the great. Some guys get content while others use it as an opportunity to get better. Here's the schedule for Texas Football in the middle of the year.
This week's Scoop dives deep into last weekend's HS recruiting scene. From The Opening in Oregon, to the State 7v7 in College Station, IT has all your bases covered. News, notes, and quotes from Texas commits, targets, and more. Before you start celebrating our country's birthday, get some Scoop.
As you could probably glean from the various mediums of social media, the pool party was a resounding event. Said one in attendance, "I don't know how a parent or player was there and doesn't think Texas isn't the place for them." This event was successful at recruiting whole families. We talk to some of the top recruits in attendance, a couple new offers, and keeping tabs on back-up plans for the UT staff in the Scoop.
One of the best ways to enjoy at hot summer day is to call a few friends over, open up the grill, and hang out by the pool. Texas football took this notion to heart today as Tom Herman and his staff hosted the Texas Heat Wave pool party on campus in Austin.
The 2015 recruiting class was one of the most athletic collections of defensive players that the Longhorns had signed in this decade. Malik Jefferson headlined the group and was joined, by order of 247 ranking, Anthony Wheeler, Holton Hill, Kris Boyd, DeShon Elliott, Davante Davis, P.J. Locke, and Breckyn Hager to round out their defensive backfield class. Now in year three we are finally seeing how the pieces fit together.
Sometime in the early mid-2000's some friends and I were on one of those river buses in New Braunfels catching a ride back to the parking lot. It being a long day in the sun, we might have had a little buzz working. I look over to the side and I see somebody's head standing way taller than the rest. It's THE Chris Mihm. Within 15 seconds we had that whole bus chanting "Let's go Celtics!" I still laugh about it wondering if most of the people even knew why we were chanting that.
