MESQUITE — Linebacker Malik Jefferson was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 78th overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Friday at AT&T Stadium. He becomes the first Longhorn linebacker since Jordan Hicks was a third-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. AUSTIN — Texas held its Pro Day between practice days on Wednesday, meaning that head coach Tom Herman had an opportunity to watch players he was able to coach for just one season give the physical portion of their job interviews with NFL teams
Dallas-area trainer Clay Mack has worked with some big names, preparing them for the NFL Combine, pro-day, and in the offseason. AUSTIN — After defeating the No. 24 West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, Texas earned bowl eligibility with its sixth win. It is a huge milestone for head coach Tom Herman and the rest of the Longhorn staff and team, as another December spent at home would have severely impeded what the first year coach wants to build during his time in Austin.
MORGANTOWN, WV -- Texas entered Saturday’s game at No. 24 West Virginia winless in 2017 against ranked opponents. Stopping WVU quarterback Will Grier was a tough task, but Texas had its own difference maker on the offensive side of the ball in junior Connor Williams, back for the first time since USC. Texas rushed for more than 230 yards behind an invigorated offensive line and held the potent Mountaineer offense in check after WVU quarterback Will Grier’s injury to earn bowl eligibility in a 28-14 win.
The grades are in after UT's 38-7 win over Baylor from McLane Stadium on Saturday. The offense is improving and the defense is on the Dean's List. More from our Coach Venable on the Longhorns performance.
The Longhorns dominated a respectable Bear offense and held Baylor to their season lows in points (7) and yardage (249). The defense continues to excel on 3rd and 4th down holding the Bears to 1/9 conversions in the first half and 5/23 total for the game. It's hard to win with a 21.7% conversion rate if you're not hitting big plays.
