Ever since Matt Campbell arrived and turned Iowa State into a legitimate program, Texas’ showdown with the Cyclones has taken on massive importance at the end of the year when it comes up on the schedule.

The Longhorns had just defeated Oklahoma and Kansas State in consecutive weeks thanks to Jerrod Heard getting 36 carries for 176 yards and Texas cementing their identity as a “run first, run second, run third” team. Then they travelled up to Ames and the Cyclones exposed the weaknesses of that one-dimensional offense with a humiliating 24-0 beating.
