As much as new Texas head basketball coach Shaka Smart won his opening press conference with everyone in attendance and watching it on TV, it was a soon to be senior that probably gave the most perspective as to the changes you might see in the Texas program.

Poised and polished. Shaka Smart was both today as he was announced as the new Men's Basketball coach at Texas. In Smart, Texas nabbed a 37-year-old, rising star who took Virginia Commonwealth to the 2011 Final Four in just his third season. The Rams recorded five straight upsets during that run, including top-seed Kansas.
*Audible sigh of relief coming from tim beam’s living room* Okay, so it appears to be a done deal. And, in exactly two week’s time, Texas has gone from a program in flux to one of seemingly ultimate excitement with the announcement that VCU head coach Shaka Smart will replace Rick Barnes.
