ULM’s poor shooting helps Horns down Warhawks, 80-59, in Legends Classic + Preston’s Game Thoughts

AUSTIN -- When a team lives and dies from the 3-point line, the “dying” part can look disastrous. Going 23 percent from three and 30 percent from the field did not help the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, and points from nine of the 12 Horns who played ended any chance of a ULM comeback. With help from sophomore Tevin Mack’s 14 points in his season debut, the Longhorns pulled away in the second half to win 80-59 in the first game of the Legends Classic.

Coach V’s Grades: Texas-WVU

We had a very uneven performance on offense against WVU. We couldn't finish the deal--it's that simple. We kept shooting ourselves in the forward progress aspect of the game with penalties, turnovers, missed assignments, and clock mismanagement from the sideline. They just don't reward yardage gained and we damn sure didn't get the most points out of a 550 yards gained effort.

Reviewing the West Virginia series

Texas series’ with West Virginia has had an underrated impact on this decade of Texas football. The Longhorns are 2-2 against the Mountaineers so far with each team claiming both a home victory and a road victory. West Virginia's entry into the Big 12 hasn't exactly been a boondoggle for their program and their recruiting base is still Pennsylvania and Florida but they've done a credible job against Texas.

Stream of Consci__sness — 11/2/16

This season may not have turned into a title fight like so many hoped after the Notre Dame win, but Texas and Charlie Strong can still go the distance if it wins the championship 9th-12th rounds. Typically to do so, a fighter is required to have a granite chin and stamina, all the while retaining skill. That hasn't exactly been a hallmark of this team -- to put it mildly -- but Texas has a puncher's chance to win the final four rounds due to good scheduling fortune, UT's offensive ability, and the fact the Big 12 is a traveling pack of midget wrestlers this season (and probably many after).
