Ten Against the Spread: Week 9

The good news is I was not under .500. The bad news is I still couldn’t get to six wins. We’ll see if this week is the week.

Iowa -10.5 at Northwestern

Both of these teams play classic Big 10 football. One school hasn’t changed its coach since 1999, while the other hasn’t made a change at the top since 2006.

Their tenures have been full of boring, Big 10 a.m. nap games. Somehow, I think Iowa can manage to score two more touchdowns than Northwestern. That may be the only scoring in the game.

Liberty -7.5 at Rutgers

Chris Ash isn’t walking through that door, but Hugh Freeze might wheel himself through it.

Stanford +1.0 versus Arizona

I didn’t place any trust in Chip Kelly last week. Maybe I shouldn’t have trusted David Shaw. I’ll give him one more chance.

Penn State -7.0 at Michigan State

Again, another case where the game might be 7-0. Both of these teams don’t mind winning ugly, and a win here makes it clear it’ll be Ohio State versus Penn State for the Big 10 East.

Duke +3.5 at UNC

Rivalry games are weird and full of variables, but one thing that’s been pretty consistent this year is the Duke offense. Last week against Virginia appears to be more of an outlier, and UNC doesn’t have the offense Virginia does. I like the Devils straight up, too.

Texas Tech -4.0 at Kansas

It’s tough to beat Kansas, but I think Tech is capable.

Notre Dame -1.0 at Michigan

In a battle between the two classic forces of good in college football (heavy sarcasm), Notre Dame enters Michigan Stadium a one point favorite for a night game. Michigan isn’t a well-oiled machine, and Notre Dame failed in its only major test this year. This is a huge one for both teams.

Arizona State -4.0 at UCLA

The Rose Bowl for UCLA games does not provide a very intimidating atmosphere. Herm Edwards is… doing well, shocking pretty much everyone. The Sun Devils continue their march through the Pac 12.

Army -9.0 versus San Jose State

Major clash of styles in this one, but I like Army to get two scores on SJSU.

LSU -11.0 versus Auburn

I don’t know if LSU can be stopped this year, particularly by a team like Auburn. Kevin Steele is going to have one of his biggest tests in stopping the spread.
