Texas was the three-seed in the Big 12 Tournament. It has the same seeding in the East region of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Texas is matched up with Abilene Christian in the first round. The Wildcats were 22-4 and won the Southland Tournament. Potential second round opponents include the winner of a matchup between six-seed BYU and First Four teams Michigan State and UCLA.

Michigan is the one-seed in the East region.

This is Smart’s third time in the NCAA Tournament during his tenure at Texas and eighth overall. He reached March Madness in his first season in Austin as a six-seed, falling to Northern Iowa in the first round. In 2018, Texas fell in the first round again as a seven-seed to Nevada.

Texas is making its 35th appearance in the tournament and first as an automatic bid since 1995. The Longhorns defeated Oklahoma State 91-86 on Saturday to win the Big 12 Tournament.

The entire 2021 NCAA Tournament will be held across several venues, all in Indiana and mostly in Indianapolis. The phrase currently being used is not bubble but rather a “controlled environment.”
