The Massey rating composite is a go-to destination to observe how various analytical formulas rank individual college football teams.
No one plays to be the Sagarin national champion but the data ratings like Sagarin provides can be interesting to discuss at the end of the year.
Texas’ average ranking on the Massey composite was 13.54 and its median was 13.5. The highest ranking for the Longhorns was ESPN’s Football Power Index, which ranked Texas No. 6 above Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Iowa State, and Florida among others. The lowest ranking was courtesy of the “Mark” ratings, which placed Texas at No. 25 (Mark’s top three were Alabama, Ohio State, and Ball State).
In the more traditional AP poll voted on by media, Texas finished No. 19. It was the third consecutive season Texas finished ranked within the top 25 and counts as former head coach Tom Herman’s fourth AP top 25 finish in six seasons as head coach.
