Texas second baseman Mitchell Daly named freshman All-American

Longhorn second baseman Mitchell Daly was named to Collegiate Baseball’s freshman All-America team on Wednesday. Daly was also honored as a first-team infielder on the All-Big 12 team in May.

Daly, from Bob Jones High School in Madison, Ala., started 52 of Texas’ 60 games this season. He hit .323 with 14 doubles, two home runs, and 31 RBI. He posted a .413 on-base percentage and stole six bases. He also posted a .960 fielding percentage.

Daly was one of 10 players honored as freshman All-American second baseman, along with Carter Trice (Old Dominion), Chase Engelhard (Tulane), Sean McLain (Arizona State), Matt Shaw (Maryland), Luke Keaschall (San Francisco), Daunte Stuart (Northwestern State), Paul Toetz (Indiana), Andrew Pintar (Brigham Young), and Dixon Black (Monmouth).

He was one of three Big 12 players to be selected to the team along with TCU’s Brayden Taylor and Kansas State’s Nick Goodwin.
