Last week Texas picked up a baseball commitment by the name of Austin Todd. The outfielder from Round Rock looks to bring a toolsy skill-set to Disch. With help of a subscriber, I contacted Todd to get some more information. With the Houston Astros in the midst of a pennant run, I’m feeling baseball right now and enjoyed discussing the sport with the newest Longhorn. He grew up an Aggie fan but we won’t hold that against him.

Inside Texas: So, Round Rock, huh? What’s your summer league team?

Austin Todd: Yes, high school in Round Rock and I play for the Austin Bandidos.

IT: I saw some footage of you on Youtube. Nice swing. Tell me about your game.

AT: I’m 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds. I’ll start hitting the weights hard. I want to get bigger and stronger and have the frame to do so. I’ve seen myself listed as a pitcher and 2nd base but I’m an outfielder all the way.

IT: It seems like Texas always needs players with pop. How good is your bat?

AT: As a hitter, I feel like I can do it all. I’ve hit seven home runs this summer. I’ve hit triples, doubles, singles. I can even bunt [laughing]. I know coach Garrido likes to bunt.

IT: What’s your average?

AT: Not sure but I’d guess around .420.

IT: That’s a popular number in Austin. How’s your glove?

AT: People will say I’m a better hitter but I think I’m a good fielder too. You can’t always go 3-3 but you can always help your team in the field so I work hard on that aspect.

IT: Is there anyone in the majors you model your game after?

AT: I can’t bring myself to do that. They’re all so good and do so many different things well. I really like watching Mike Trout but who doesn’t?

IT: Yeah, he’s an insane talent. Here in Houston we’re really excited about Correa.

AT: He’s great too.

IT: Is there any talk about you being drafted out of high school?

AT: I haven’t really heard that. If it happened I’d have to weigh my options but right now I’m just focusing on college.

IT: What other schools were recruiting you?

AT: I had offers from Vanderbilt, McNeese State, and Dallas Baptist.

IT: Nice. Vandy’s a great school and Dallas Baptist just made a nice run. Anything else I need to know about you?

AT: I’m super excited to be a Longhorn and can’t wait to compete for them.

IT: Obviously our readers love the school, they’ll love hearing that. Thanks for your time.

AT: Thank you and anytime.
